Art philosophical statement:

I believe that since we are all completely unique individuals that it is our emotions that bond us together. We all have pain, joy, insecurities. And although we all have different experiences, we can relate and empathize with the emotional side of what each other is going through.  And I think that is why we art resonates so much with us. So much, including my own, was created out of an intense emotional experience. Being bipolar, art is an essential part of my lifeline. It gets me through the tough emotions.

Speaking of tough, one of the most valuable lessons I’m learning is to be kind to myself and I highly suggest it. We’ve all spent enough time being hard on ourselves, and while it serves a purpose, most of us go too far. We would never treat our best friend so harshly. So I’m offering you the challenge to change that up, showing yourself kindness and forgiveness. All it takes is catching yourself when you are saying unkind words to yourself to pause and think of what you would say to someone else that you deeply loved and cared for in the same situation (e.g. “so you made a mistake, no big deal, your human, now let’s get on with the day”). It’s amazing how much just this way of talking to ourselves can change our how outlook and life.

Thanks for visiting Hearts Imagined. From my heart to yours, Erica
